# Where does K-Stra work, and where is my data stored?

Australian data, on Australian infrastructure.

In short

K-Stra covers Australia today, from the whole country down to 14.5 million address points, and New Zealand and the Pacific islands are being mapped. The app runs on a dedicated server in Sydney: your datasets, your analyses and your results stay in Australia, and the few external steps are listed one by one.

Geographic coverage

## Which countries does K-Stra cover today?

Australia today, the rest of Oceania next. Every country uses the same structure — up to nine administrative levels and the single address — so adding one is a new data load, not a new product.

- ### Australia

    Live

Every state and territory, on 9 administrative levels down to 14.5 million address points, with every available module.

- ### New Zealand

    Being mapped

Data and road network in preparation. No release date has been announced.

- ### Pacific islands

    Being mapped

Being mapped as part of Oceania. No release date has been announced.

Schematic illustration, not a map: shapes are simplified and not to scale. Australia is live; New Zealand and the Pacific islands are being mapped.

Data residency

## Where is my data stored?

K-Stra runs on a dedicated server in Sydney. Your datasets, your analyses and your results stay in Australia.

The application, its database and the files you upload live on the same dedicated machine, hosted by OVHcloud in its SYD03 data centre in Sydney, and the backups stay in Sydney too. A handful of steps use providers outside Australia; they are listed below in two groups, because most of them never see the data you upload.

Stays in Australia

- The database: accounts, credits, analyses and their versions
- Every dataset you upload, including Sales and Customer Loyalty files
- The results of every analysis and the reports built from them
- Application logs, with email addresses masked
- Backups, kept as four copies per database in OVH object storage in Sydney

### Which external steps never see the data I upload?

These services are needed to draw the map, take payments and confirm who you are. None of them receives your datasets, your analyses or your results.

External steps that never receive the data you upload

Step

Provider

What it receives

When

Map tiles

Mapbox

USA

Tile requests from your browser: its IP address and the part of the map on screen.

While you use the map

Payments and invoices

Stripe

USA / EU

Your organisation’s billing details and the amounts paid. Card details are held by Stripe only.

When you buy credits or renew a plan

Sign-in

Google or Microsoft

USA / EU

Nothing is sent: K-Stra receives your name, email and photo from the provider.

Only if you choose to sign in with them

Business number check

VIES and ABN Lookup

EU / Australia

Your organisation’s VAT number or ABN, to confirm the company name.

When you enter it in your billing details

Street panorama check

Google

USA

The coordinates of a property listing, sent by our server, to check whether a street panorama exists. Fonts are served by K-Stra itself.

When you open a property listing

### Which three steps can carry my data outside Australia?

Only these three can include content from your files or your analyses. Each one runs when you use it — and for geocoding, only after you confirm.

The three external steps that can carry content from your data

Provider

What it receives

When

Geocoding

Mapbox

USA

Only the address text of rows that have no coordinates. Never turnover, card codes or amounts.

Only when you start geocoding and accept its cost (1.5 credits per 1,000 addresses). Files with latitude and longitude trigger no call.

AI assistant and AI in reports

Google Gemini

USA

Your question, the conversation, the analysis on screen with a summary of its results — which can include column names and values from your datasets — and an image of the current map view. In reports, the tables of the elements you ask it to write about.

Each time you ask the assistant, or confirm an AI draft, rewrite or comment in a report

Email

Brevo

France

Every email the app sends: sign-in codes, invitations, run results with figures from the analysis, share notices and scheduled reports with their PDF and Excel attachments.

Each time an email is sent, including to recipients you add to a report schedule

Your controls

## How can I limit what leaves my account?

The exposure depends on what you use. These are the switches that are in your hands today.

### Skip the geocoder

Upload your stores and customers with latitude and longitude, and no address ever goes to the geocoding service. Each point is attached to the road network on the server, free of charge.

### Session-only datasets

Mark a file “session only” and it is deleted 24 hours after upload. Backups taken in the meantime keep it until they rotate, about four months later.

### Organisations kept apart

No organisation can read another’s data. Inside yours, datasets are shared with your team by default, and an analysis is visible only to its author and your organisation’s owner until it is shared.

### The assistant is optional

Nothing is sent to the AI model unless you write to the assistant or use an AI action in a report. Its requests and answers are kept in the activity log for 180 days.

FAQ

## Questions about coverage and residency

### When will New Zealand be available?

New Zealand is being mapped, followed by the Pacific islands. No release date has been announced yet, and until there is one an analysis can only cover Australian addresses.

### Can I analyse an area that crosses a state border?

Yes. A drive-time band or a drawn area collects the addresses it reaches wherever they are, so a catchment around Albury includes Wodonga across the Murray. Results are split by council and postcode, whichever state they belong to.

### Are Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands covered?

Only in the national totals. Their address map has not been loaded yet, so an analysis there finds no residents; together the two islands account for 2,490 people in the 2024 estimate.
